Theres nothing more empowering than managing your own health and well-being so in this article I am sharing my 12 must-have staples for your prepper’s health cabinet! These are the products that come up time and again for clients and those I would recommend everyone has on hand for emergencies and general maintenance. This list is by no means exhaustive!
Working as a health practitioner for over 20 years my ethos is about giving the body the right instructions so it can bring itself back into balance. I work with clients in a variety of ways to help them achieve this.
I believe that now more than ever before it is vital we become advocates for our own health, take back responsibility by learning about healthy living, healthy food, and how our bodies work.
Colloidal Silver
This type of silver is produced by using a generator and silver rods that disperse a tiny amount of silver into distilled water over a period of hours. This type of silver is beneficial for many things and acts like a natural antibiotic, it is anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic. It can be taken internally applied to skin, used in the ears, nose and eyes. I use it daily in a variety of ways. I make and sell this product so if you are interested contact me for more information. You can also read more here. Colloidal Silver
DMSO
DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) is a colourless liquid solvent known for its ability to penetrate skin and carry other substances through biological membranes. It is a by-product of the paper making industry! DMSO is a must for the medicine cabinet as it is excellent for pain relief and inflammation. It also has healing properties when applied to the skin as it penetrates deeply. I have used it on areas where I have had deep inflammation in tendons, ligaments, and bones. I also use DMSO eye drops that are healing for a multitude of eye problems. And finally, I use DMSO periodically as a mouth wash and used it daily when I had a tooth extracted this year. DMSO must always be diluted – for eye drops the dilution is high i.e. 20% DMSO and 80% purified water. For topical application I usually dilute at 50/50 or 70/30.
Arnica homeopathic remedy
Homeopathic Arnica is probably the most well-known homeopathic remedy. You can use this for bruising, muscle sprains and strains and generalised aches and pains. The remedy is great to use after surgeries of any kind, and post childbirth. I also like to use the remedy after any kind of emotional shock or upset.
Arnica Cream
Arnica cream is wonderful to use if we have an accident of some sort where we bruise ourselves. It can be applied onto the bruised area, and it will reduce bruising symptoms both internally and externally.
Aconite homeopathic remedy
Aconite is the go-to homeopathic remedy for shock, fright, anxiety, panic attacks and trauma of any kind. I also like to use this remedy when I feel the sudden onset of symptoms such as a cold or flu, and it will often nip it in the bud!
Five Flower remedy AKA Rescue Remedy
Dr Bach created the wonderful set of thirty-eight Bach flower remedies. Rescue Remedy combines five of these thirty-eight remedies. I use this remedy after any kind of emergency or when I need immediate help such as before or after moments of difficulty or upset. It gently calms anxiety, stress, and jangled nerves, a must have for the times we are living in!
Black seed oil
Black seed oil, derived from Nigella sativa seeds, is a potent natural remedy known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. Use it to support immune health, skin conditions, respiratory issues, blood sugar balance, bacterial infections and more. The powerful compound thymoquinone contained in black seed oil is responsible for this remedy’s therapeutic effects.
Castor Oil and a castor oil pack
Castor oil packs can enhance circulation, reduce inflammation, and support detox pathways. You can buy ready-made castor oil packs with cotton on one side and an oil proof material on the outside to prevent the oil leaking. Apply about 2 tablespoons of castor oil onto the cotton side and apply that onto the skin over the abdomen, liver, pelvis, or any other area to be treated, leave for a few hours or overnight.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that supports immune function, collagen production, iron absorption, and has antioxidant protection. It must be consumed daily, as the body cannot store it. It also neutralises free radicals and reduces inflammation. We rarely get enough in our diets, so I recommend a good wholefood form of vitamin C be taken daily.
Zinc
This essential mineral supports immune function, hormones, wound healing, skin health, bone and muscle health, blood sugar regulation, and cellular growth. Regular intake through diet or supplements is necessary as the body cannot store Zinc.
Vitamin D
This vital nutrient helps regulate calcium and phosphate in the body, supporting bone health, immune function, hormonal health, and mood. Due to limited sun exposure most people in the Northern hemisphere need to supplement Vitamin D during the winter months.
Magnesium
This essential mineral is involved in over three hundred biochemical reactions in the body.
If you take nothing else take magnesium! I have seen clients experience miracles when they include this! Magnesium is great for many things including, sleep and relaxation, muscle and nerve function, regulation of blood sugar and insulin response, promotes heart health, supports normal blood pressure and heart rhythm, strengthens bones, can improve mood and ease anxiety and emotional upset.
If you would like to know more about magnesium Dr Carolyn Dean’s book – The Magnesium Miracle is a great place to start.
A few other remedies I often recommend to clients include, Iron, B vitamins, Potassium Boron, Collagen, Amino Acids, Charcoal, Spirulina, Chlorella and therapeutic Clays. The list could go on but I will leave it there for now!
